Unwell x Google Pixel

Moving On:
The Microdrama

ft. Alex Cooper & a bunch of TV stars

If Google Pixel has Circle-to-Search, built-in Gemini, and an objectively better camera, why do millennials still prefer iPhone?

Because technology purchases are about identity, not features. Switching phones means rewriting a story people have been telling themselves for nearly two decades.

So rather than tell everyone to buy a different phone, we built a campaign around a bigger question, a modern anxiety that Alex often discusses with her audience: How can we make sure that the choices we make are really our own?

We answered it not with a commercial, but an entire cinematic universe with a Pixel campaign hidden inside it: a 14-episode microdrama about characters trapped inside a TV show who have no idea they're fictional. Every decision they make—from who they date to which phone they carry—has already been written by unseen writers, directors, and sponsors.

Because the metaphor depended on audiences instantly recognizing the television tropes we were referencing, we cast millennial icons Emily VanCamp (
Revenge), Yanic Truesdale (Gilmore Girls), and Giacomo Gianniotti (Grey's Anatomy). We even filmed on the Smallville farm.

Rather than launch the microdrama as branded content, we treated it like prestige entertainment, complete with a trailer, key art, and behind-the-scenes content.
